How do I set up ReBirth in ReWire mode with a ReWire host?

How do I record the audio from ReBirth in to my ReWire host application?

It's not possible to record the ReWire audio from ReBirth in the same manner as you record external audio that's input via your sound card. In order to record the ReWire audio from Reason you must perform an internal mixdown in the ReWire host application, in the same way as you would record the audio from a soft synth plug-in. Look for a function called e.g. "Bounce to track", "Export Audio" or "Mixdown" in your ReWire host application.

You can also convert your ReBirth Song to an audio file and import it back into the host application. Just load the song you want to turn into an audio file. Set the loop points to the beginning and end of the song. Select 'Export Loop as Audio File' from the File menu. Choose the file format you desire (WAVE or AIFF), type a file name and click OK. ReBirth will now render the song as a stereo, 16-bit 44.1 kHz audio file which can be imported into your multitrack audio software.

When I synchronize ReBirth with my sequencer program, the tempo is unstable and keeps floating...?

You could mean two things by that:

1. The tempo display on the ReBirth main screen alters between different BPM settings, for example 136-137-136 etc. Don't worry, this is perfectly normal, it's only a minor rounding error in the graphic display code, and not the sync.

Example: ReBirth syncs to a sequencer program running in the background, and the tempo is set to 140 BPM. If the MIDI clock output from the sequencer program goes slightly below what ReBirth considers to be 140 BPM, ReBirth will display 139 for a moment and then go back to 140. This does not affect sync or playback.

2. You can actually hear that ReBirth is out of sync. This is probably because you haven't made the proper settings in the Preferences dialog. The "Play Ahead" parameter must correspond with the "Adjust Sync" parameter. For example, if you have set the Playback Performance to "Play Ahead: 50ms", then the "Adjust sync" setting must be somewhere around 50ms too (actually, 45ms appears to do the trick). Listen and adjust!

The tuning and the speed of the 303's and the drum machines sound wrong when ReBirth is ReWired?

ReBirth only supports a sample rate setting of 44.1 kHz and if your ReWire host is set to another setting, the tuning of ReBirth will be affected.

At the time when ReBirth was released, it was quite rare that audio cards supported higher sample rates, thus sample rates above 44.1 kHz simply wasn't implemented in ReBirth.

In the ReWire host master application, Audio settings, you should set the sample rate to 44.1 kHz, and ReBirth will sound properly again.

Alert: "No MIDI device could be found"

Happens if ReBirth is run in ReWire mode. The ReWire host application steals all MIDI devices when running ReWire, there are none left for ReBirth. Since ReBirth gets whatever MIDI it needs from the ReWire host, this is not an error message, just an alert.
